Sustainable tourism measures

·      Porini Lion Camp is a small facility that blends well with its environment. Apart from the footpaths, no other vegetation has been cleared around the camp and no exotic species have been introduced into the area;

·      Conservation effort: Porini Lion has increased land available for wildlife by setting aside a conservancy and managing it at a cost to the camp

·      The camp has a clear and equitable benefit sharing mechanisms with the local community. It has also demonstrated its commitment to supporting the community’s welfare by employing 15 locals.

·      The camp entirely relies on solar energy for lighting and uses energy saving bulbs

·      Resource conservation is also demonstrated by Porini Lion’s use of charcoal briquettes for heating water, having only one boiler for the whole camp and using unique Safari Showers as a water conservation measure

·      Servicing of vehicles is done in Nairobi to reduce chances of environmental pollution

·      Porini Lion practices separation of wastes before disposal

·      The camp maximizes visitor experience by providing written and oral information and creating opportunities for visitors to interact with the local community.
